Tie One On a Thon 2013

It’s almost that time of year again, and we’re busy wrangling tiers, sponsors, and cats. This year’s Tie One On A Thon will once again benefit Project Healing Waters, and take place on February 24th, 2013 for 12:00 – 6:00 at SCOF headquarters in downtown Asheville. We’ll have gear giveaways every thirty minutes or so, tying clinics from some of the best guides and tiers in the Southeast and beyond, and as always beer, food, and beer. All this fun for one low price yet to be determined. But if you have a vice and are willing to spend some time twisting feather and fur for a good cause we’ll cut you a deal. Check out the official page on our website every 37 hours from now until February as we’ll be updating it with sponsors and tiers as they come in.

We’ll see all of you there…bring your own TP,

Last Fish Of An Old Year

I am now a weekend warrior. The real world has finally caught up with me, and once it did, it’s been kickin’ my ass ever since. Working 60 hours a week tends to put a crimp on one’s fishing days, but I finally managed to get out and float an oldie but a goody. Much like leftover chinese food, winter egg eaters make you feel bad about yourself in a thoroughly satisfying way. Enjoy some pics, and don’t forget to check out the new issue in a couple of weeks.

So I know it’s been a while, but what can I say…..sorry. Just wanted to let everyone know that while I wouldn’t expect more blog posts out of me on a regular basis, every so often it is not inconceivable that I will get a wild hair up my ass and post something random. If you don’t expect much, when I do come through it seems more grandiose….ask my wife. Enjoy some pics that I didn’t take.

It’s Expo Time…And This Time You’re Discouraged From Removing Your Pants

Join the SCOF crew for the annual WNC Fly Fishing Expo this coming Saturday November 3, and Sunday, November 4th. We’ll have some of the crew out, a bunch of swag, and a PBR tall boy tasting on noon Sunday. Consider it our version of brunch. Besides us there will be a bunch of great shops, manufacturers, and the mustache himself, Kelly Gallop. The only acceptable excuse for not attending will be something having to do with a sudden onset case of elephantitis…we will need proof. See you in our backyard this weekend folks.

Big Easy Bound

I am in the middle of the work week and all I can think about is étouffée and bull reds. We head to the bayou next week to film and photograph the saltwater feature for the next issue. The trip is gonna be slightly off the hizzie (I just said that). We’re hanging out with Capt. Gregg Arnold and his crew for the week so I figure it might be appropriate to share with you all what I have been doing this week instead of working…looking up redfish film noir on the vimeo. Enjoy, because I know we will.

…and last but not least some tips from Capt. Gregg for coming down to fish Louisiana. I think I might be getting yelled at…

Non-Photographers Photography Trip

Photography is an art that I have never even whiffed mastery of, even for a minute. So when Kent Klewein of Gink and Gasoline and I hit the river last saturday (without our photographer friends in tow), we figured it might be a good time to flex our own makin’ picture muscles. All I can say is that Lightroom is a helluva program…and a brown is a helluva trout.

Catching Up

When you take a blog hiatus, like I have the past couple weeks, coming back is always kind of awkward. Soooo…what’s been goin’ on with y’all. Oh, us?… not much…that rash finally cleared up…yeah that pretty much does it. I forgot, we did co-sponsor the Carp Cup in Knoxville a couple of weeks ago with our buddies at 3Rivers Angler. It was an eleven on a debauchery scale of 1-10. Brent Golden pretty much dominated the thing taking the team win and big fish…asshole. Keep an eye out in the Fall issue for the full tournament recap.

We also have been adding staff here at SCOF (no small feat when you can’t pay anybody) and would like to welcome Thomas Harvey, who a lot of you know as one our main fly tying contributors, and also from such Facebook pages as Carolina Fly, Thomas Harvey Loves Puppies, and My Fiance Is Way Too Hot For Me. Thomas will be taking over as SCOF social media director, so if you follow us across the intra-web, you’re bound to run into him sooner or later. Say hi, he likes virtual hugs.

I promise I’ll be back on here more frequently than I have been as of late, but I promise a lot of things.

IFTD All Wrapped Up Like A Pig In A Blanket

We’re back In Asheville after a few days in Reno attending our very first International Fly Tackle Dealers show (IFTD). Being babes in the industry it amazed me every time I got a chance to talk to big players in the industry that they not only knew who we were but actually told us that what we were doing didn’t suck. We got to meet a lot of people whose names we only knew from magazines and books, see a lot of gear that we had only heard rumors of, and tilt a few back with some our all time favorite fly fishing degenerates….you know who you are. If you’re into the industry scene you’re gonna hear a lot about of the future of IFTD over the next few weeks, but whether the show goes on or gets folded into another more general mega show all we can say is that we had a blast and really appreciate the warm welcome we got. Keep an eye out in the Fall issue for favorite gear pics from the show. Until then enjoy our instagram gallery from the show.

I Killed A Man In Reno Just To Steal His Swag

Yes kids the rumors are true. There is an international fly fishing trade show, and somehow Steve and I wound up attending. We’ll be engaging in various forms of buffoonery over the next few days including heckling the casting pond and spreading rumors and lies amongst the industry solely for our own entertainment, you know the usual. We are strangers in a strange land so we figure we’d take all our friends to Reno with us…through the magic of the intraweb.
